Homemade Nut (or Oat!) Milk

Homemade nut milk is not only more delicious and cheaper than store-bought milks, it's also a lot easier on the digestion.

If almond, soy or coconut milk still bloats or upset your stomach, it could be because of the emulsifiers and stabilizers. I usually try and make my own to avoid potential stomach-upsetting additives like: carrageenan, xantham gum + guar gum that are in many conventional alternative milks and known to cause digestive disturbances.

With only 2 ingredients (and one is water!), this digestion-friendly recipe will surely become a staple in your household.

HOMEMADE NUT (OR OAT!) MILK

Ingredients

  • 1 cup oats or nuts

  • 1 cup + 3 cups cold water

  • Optional: cinnamon, sea salt, 1-2 dates

Directions

  • Soak 1 cup of oats or nuts (or a mix of both equalling 1 cup) for 8 hours or overnight.

  • After soaking, strain nuts/oats from the liquid and blend the oats/nuts with 3 cups fresh, cold water.

  • Strain again if you'd rather a lighter consistency.

  • Optional: blend it up with cinnamon, sea salt + dates for the tastiest, creamiest non-dairy milk!

  • Store the milk in a glass jar. Will stay fresh for 3-5 days in the fridge.
